for the week of January 15, 2016

When compiling this week’s list of ‘What’s New’, I came across a lot of familiar faces and names – some we are lucky enough to see on a regular basis and some we aren’t – and also some new identities to the QC music scene. I’m not a huge fan of New Year’s Resolutions, but one I’ll always support is a resolve to discover new music, or at least be more open-minded to music outside of your comfort zone; and we are more than equipped to help you out in that department.

Flatland2-8

The Flatland Tourist by Brian Twitty

On Friday evening, January 15, The Evening Muse features Southern roots rock group The Flatland Tourists along with the classic blues and rock of The Freeway Revival, while Double Door Inn hosts high-energy rock and country crew Josh Brannon Band and unique country band Greg Payne & The Piedmont Boys. In typical throwback fashion, Amos’ Southend will be having the Kid Rock tribute, Cowboy, Friday night along with Shotgun Saints and The Fetish. Visulite Theatre gathers Beatles’ fans together for Abbey Road Live! Elsewhere on Friday, you can find Elevator Jay with The Social Contract, Rob Earth-One and Malcolm Chester at Snug Harbor, while further north in the Raleigh/Durham area Friday night, Bobby Bones & The Raging Idiots takes over Carolina Theatre a couple of nights, and to the south at Columbia’s Music Farm you can catch Rebelution.

The Evening Muse by Dianna Augustine

On Saturday, January 16, Amos’ further teases our cover band cravings with the ’80s rock experience, Bad Romeo, while Rebelution pays Charlotte a visit over at The Fillmore, The Milestone serves up metal on a platter with Mondays, Suppressive Fire, All Hell, Extermination Rite and October, and Manic Focus takes center stage at Visulite Theatre. Also on Saturday, a duo conceived over an open mic night, Henry River Honey, can be found at Double Door Inn for the evening along with an equally dynamic multi-instrumental duo, Lauren and Lane, and The Evening Muse welcomes stand-up comedian Mag Jackson.

Continuing the weekend up in the Raleigh area, Bobby Bones & The Raging Idiots steal another night away at Carolina Theatre and Abbey Road Live! hits NC one more time over at Cat’s Cradle. Continuing into the backend of the weekend, Chamber Orchestra of the Triangle entertain Durham locals at Carolina theatre Sunday evening, January 17, while back in Charlotte, Snug Harbor’s karaoke night, Bone Snugs-N-Harmony, closes out the weekend, as well as the IMPACT Meet & Greet at Neighborhood Theatre where you can get to know rising musicians and social media stars. Monday night, January 18, is a night full of some of our favorite things, including Snug Harbor’s music trivia, Let’s Get Quizzical, Double Door Inn’s variety show The Monday Night Allstars, and The Evening Muse’s number one open mic night, Find Your Muse, featuring ’90s rock artist Rob Williams.

Emotron

Tuesday, January 19, will feature some pop metal with Queensryche, Meytal and Halcyon Way at Amos’, as well as some jazz at Double Door Inn with Bill Hanna Jazz Jam, comedy mixed with hip hop by way of Dirt Nasty & Mickey Avalon‘s Married to The Game Tour stopping by Neighborhood Theatre, and some soulful pipes demonstrated by Toby Lightman at The Evening Muse. On Wednesday evening, January 20, be sure to check out The Emotron with Jack Toft, Dip and SatanParty at The Milestone, the original rock ‘n’ roll of The Americans at The Evening Muse, or for those in SC this week, check out Ani DiFranco down in Columbia at the Music Farm. Additionally, you can enjoy Snug Harbor’s January residency, Motel Glory, accompanied this week by The Everymen, or swing by Double Door Inn for the solo project of Georgia artist Kristine Leschper: Mothers.

The remainder of the week for our friends in Raleigh and Durham include the alternative rock of Scott Stapp and Rockett Queen at Cat’s Cradle Monday night, Ratatat at The Ritz Raleigh Tuesday evening followed up by Papadosio’s Extras In A Movie Tour Act II on Wednesday, and Jamey Johnson Thursday night, January 21, at Carolina Theatre. Back in Charlotte, the week wraps up Thursday night with a little bit of everything, from singer/songwriters, to local favorites and more.

Check out Nashville rock group Moon Taxi with the unspecified genre of The Lonely Biscuits at Amos’, local rock crews Fear Until Fury, Off With Her Head and Infektion at The Milestone, singer/songwriters Russell Howard, JD Eicher and Steve Everett at Double Door Inn, and Joe Pug & Horse Feathers at Visulite. Also, indie-folk brother team Dupont Brothers is joined by lead singer of Time Sawyer, Sam Tayloe, at The Evening Muse, hardcore punk/metal bands Deafheaven and Power Trip tag team Neighborhood Theatre’s stage, and weekly favorite, SHIPROCKED!, returns for another Thursday night at Snug Harbor.
