What’s New This Week
for the week of September 4, 2015
There’s a proverbial click that happens with most of us between August 31 and September 1. It’s one day to the next, but somehow also feels like the official transition of one season into the next. It officially feels like fall. Which means, simultaneously, that summer is ending. We all know Labor Day weekend is the “official” closeout of summer, so technically this gives us one good week left before we leave the warmth of summer festivities behind for the crispness of fall activities ahead.
The first full weekend of September kicks off Friday evening, September 4, with things like non-mainstream alternative and rock at Amos’ Southend featuring Fuse, Skyfold, Meliora, Halden Vang and Genius Music, MOTHERS with Nude Party, Mall Goth and Zodiac Lovers at Snug Harbor, and an afrobeat and funk-infused dance party at Double Door titled All Cows Eat Grass Dance Party. Visulite Theatre introduces Atlas Road Crew Friday night along with Moosekick and The Distributors, while Tribal Seeds’ 2015 Summer Smoke Out Tour makes a stop at Neighborhood Theatre along with The Expanders and Arise Roots. A progressive metal blend sets the tone for Onward to Olympas’ 5 year anniversary hometown show at Tremont Music Hall including Elizabeth Crim and Thanks to you. The Evening Muse hosts a full night of Queen City natives including Charlotte roots artist Mike Ramsey & Band and Arsena Schroeder followed up by a second set with Warsong, Good Bones and The Business People.

Also on Friday night further north in the Raleigh/Durham area, Los Tucanes de Tijuana returns to The Ritz Raleigh, Jim Jefferies can be found at Carolina Theatre and modern bluegrass Mipso celebrates for the first night of two at Cat’s Cradle their album release, joined by songwriter Kristin Andreasson Friday night and alt-punk artist Josh Moore on Saturday night, September 5. Back in Charlotte on Saturday night, the Local Music Showcase sets up shop at Amos’ featuring Above Livius, The Culturalists, Frank & The Alter Egos, I The Supplier, Searching for Serenity, Vice and Vessels and more. The Milestone dishes out a punk rock feature with The Body Bags, From the Gun, gruzer and The Asound. The Loudermilks are joined by Greg Hawks and Perry Fowler at Snug Harbor and Chicago blues blend Sean Chambers Band make themselves at home at Double Door Inn.
If you’re interested in something other than the typical rock ‘n’ roll show Saturday night, consider checking out Neighborhood Theatre for a set up including independent artist Mat Musto’s solo project, BlackBear, and American hip hop artist $kinny, or plan a trip to The Evening Muse to check out Gothic folk artist Christopher Paul Stelling along with singer/songwriter duo The Lady Comes First, followed up later in the evening by Texas style crew The Rocketboys and Jeremiah Wilde. Taking us into the finale of the weekend, Tremont Music Hall goes out with a bang to the tune of fine black metal courtesy of Negura Bunget, Dynfari, GRIMEGOD and Baasthyrian. Snug Harbor gives us another stellar karaoke night of Bone Snugs-N-Harmony. Speaking of resident parties at Snug Harbor; Monday night’s hip hop party Knocturnal turns three Monday night, September 7, featuring Homeboy Sandman for the evening, while The Monday Night Allstars deliver another epic variety night at Double Door Inn, and The Evening Muse retires Find Your Muse Open Mic Night for the week due to Labor Day.

Wednesday, September 9, features Eric Hutchinson at The Fillmore, Snug Harbor’s September residency YARBS with Husky Bundles and Couches this week, while Neighborhood Theatre excites the nostalgic aggressive rocker in us all with a little bit of Buckcherry, Saving Abel and Sons of Texas. Also on Wednesday night, Tremonstrous Comedy Wednesdays returns to Tremont including this week Tyrone Burston, Deacon Dean and Paul Pallotta, and folk rock combo Have Gun Will Travel team up with Southern rock outfit Cranford Hollow at The Evening Muse.
