Carolina hip hop all up in here for the rest of the year.
To the hibbit to the Hobbit, The Carolinas got it…
Myrtle Beach and the Outer Banks will partying all up in here for the rest of the year. The popular summer getaway spots, as well as Charlotte, Raleigh, Greensboro and other locations will be teeming with new inspired Hip Hop artists. (Check it out, check it out.) These 21st Century poets, kicking it in the South, where new and talented emerging artists such as King Mez, 9th Wonder, Petey Pablo, and others fight the power. Below I am including a regional calendar of up and coming events so you can get your freak on.
Before I list the shows, I would like to give a brief overview of some artists that are coming up from North Carolina specifically. King Mez kicks tracks like “Changed” which is about how fame can transform a person, not always for the better. This track is full of resentment and indignation. “Inheritance” and “Morris” have have the same angst with the addition of interesting, almost gothic choral samples in their backgrounds.
9th Wonder on the other hand approaches hip hop from a different angle. He does a lot of smooth instrumentals, reminiscent of 70’s R&B. These instrumental tracks have a minimal amount of lyrics. Jams like “Hard to Choose,” “Honey” and “Beautiful Lady” by 9th Wonder are pretty sweet. Petey Pablo sings the praises of North Carolina with tracks like “Raise Up” and “Carolina Colors.” These are crowd pleasing anthems that have the standard hip hop bravado.
