Summer’s officially over – even though Mother Nature hasn’t gotten the memo yet – and while some are excited about pumpkins, we’re still over here getting giddy over some of our favorite live music.

Friday, September 23, boasts a nice lineup of musical preferences. I feel like a broken record sometimes by constantly claiming there’s something for everyone, but there genuinely is. Leading the way Friday evening is an infamous Amos’ Southend throwback featuring Genesis cover group, Abacab, and Red Barchetta Rush Tribute Band, local guitarist collaboration, Annabell Leigh, with Blackwater Drowning, Shades of Deceit and Exiles at The Milestone, and Inter Arma at Snug Harbor along with Call of the Void and Black Fleet. Alternatively, you can also check out the musical exploration that is Hardcore Lounge Friday night at Double Door Inn, who fluctuate between anything from southern rock to disco, accompanied by It’s Snakes and Boxing, join Cosmic Charlie at Visulite Theatre as they perform “Europe ’72″, or Americana duo, The Grahams, who married in both love and music, at The Evening Muse. You’ve got a new opportunity to experience the QC’s Goth/industrial dance night, Digital Noir, hosted at The Milestone Saturday night, September 24, joined this time by Michael Price and DJ Spider, check out Groove 8 at Visulite, or swing by Snug Harbor for Knowne Ghost, The Remarks and The Glazzies. Also on Saturday night, Amos’ hosts the soulful Americana rock singer/songwriter Michael Tracy Band along with Preacher Stone and Fairview Union, while TN Americana quintet Forlorn Strangers teams up with the bluegrass/roots inspired Old Salt Union at Double Door Inn, cross-genre artist Robbie Fulks pays a visit to The Evening Muse, and Neighborhood Theatre hosts Stand Against HB2, a collection of NC musicians united for EqualityNC. Featured artists/bands are Orlando Parker Jr, Jack the Radio, DJ Pangean, Donna Duncan, i Anomaly, The Loudermilks, Bless These Sounds Under the City, Rapper Shane, Happy Abandon, The Business People, Dust & Ashes, Alternative Champs, Jon Lindsay, Christy Snow and Cuzco.
On Sunday, September 25, enjoy Snug Harbor’s resident karaoke night, Bone Snugs-N-Harmony, stop by The Evening Muse for the unique R&B meets folk style of Sean Hayes, or check out James Bay at The Fillmore. For our friends in surrounding areas, there’s plenty of options for the weekend, including Cherub down in Columbia at The Music Farm on Friday night followed up by Cowboy Mouth on Saturday evening. Further north this weekend, get to know author Jim Obergefell and journalist Steven Petro at the Love Wins book discussion at Carrboro County’s Cat’s Cradle Friday night, which is to benefit EqualityNC, or check out Squirrel Nut Zippers at Carolina Theatre.
Back in the QC at the top of the week, check out Snug Harbor’s resident hip hop night, Knocturnal, Monday night, September 26, variety night The Monday Night Allstars at Double Door Inn, The Evening Muse’s spotlight night, Find Your Muse Open Mic Night, featuring singer/songwriter pair stemming from indie rock backgrounds, The Lady Comes First, or check out the innovative rock lineup at Neighborhood Theatre featuring Tiger Army, Tijuana Panthers and Creeper. Come Tuesday, September 27, you can check out Post Malone at The Fillmore, Wahya’s with Gasp and Broke Jokes at Snug Harbor, Double Door Inn’s resident jazz night, Bill Hanna Jazz Jam, or the Allman Brothers Band tribute, Live at the Fillmore, at Neighborhood Theatre.
Accompanying the mid-week Wednesday night, September 28, are metal and punk set at The Milestone including Funeral Chic, Antares and Born Hollow, Snug Harbor’s September residency Paint Fumes joined by Drag Sounds and Crystal meh?, and multi-instrumental duo Holy Smokes & The Godforsaken Rollers at Double Door Inn. Also on Wednesday evening, you can catch Kishi Bashi at Visulite, classic funk groups Lettuce and Michal Menert at Neighborhood Theatre, and the electronic and rock blend of VanLadyLove at The Evening Muse. On Thursday, September 29, The Milestone gets another metal lineup featuring The Worshiper, Cross Stitch, Shadows of Deceit, Annabell Leigh and East Viridian, while Snug Harbor’s SHIPROCKED! features this week LIPGLOSS, west coast bluegrass crew Hot Buttered Rum takes over Neighborhood Theatre, The Evening Muse hosts award-winning Americana/bluegrass artist Jim Lauderdale, and the classic rock inspired The Steppin Stones join Australian guitarist Joe Robinson at Double Door Inn.

Another treat for SC music-goers in or around Columbia will be Corinne Bailey Rae at the Music Farm Tuesday night; meanwhile, wrapping up the rest of the week back up north of the QC is Tycho at The Ritz Raleigh Tuesday night, followed up by another NC stop for Post Malone on Wednesday, and some underground hip hop at Cat’s Cradle Tuesday featuring Denzel Curry, Boogie and Yoshi Thompkins. Cat’s Cradle also hosts The Dandy Warhols on the Distortland Tour along with Savoy Motel Wednesday night, and genre-bending Nashville band Judah & The Lion with alternative rock band The Lonely Biscuits on Thursday.
